We are responsible for ensuring the smooth running of your computer systems. Tasks vary depending on the size and structure of the organisation, but will typically include:

  1. installing and configuring computer systems; monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks;
  2. talking staff/clients through a series of actions - either face-to-face or over the telephone;
    troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults;
    finding solutions to problems, be it through creating a desktop short cut or fixing a major fault on the operating system;
  3. replacing parts as required;
  4. providing support documentation, including procedural documentation;
  5. following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system;
  6. running network applications to support system and users;
  7. supporting new applications;
  8. setting up new users;
  9. responding within agreed time limits to call-outs;
  10. working continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate);
    prioritising and managing several open cases at one time;
  11. rapidly establishing a good working relationship with strangers in their premises to make necessary repairs (contract businesses);
  12. testing/evaluating new technology;
  13. conducting electrical safety checks on computer equipment.
